The realme 9i is one of the new bets in the company’s mid-range, launched in Spain together with the new realme 9 Pro and realme9 Pro+. We have been testing this realme 9i, of which we can highlight its design, with a pretty distinct finish on its back and its battery, which provides energy to the mobile to face long days. Although it must be said that, in other sections, it has room for improvement.
A screen that could be better
The 6.6-inch panel of the realme mobile is IPS LCD technology, which usually has somewhat more natural colors than AMOLED or OLED, but in return loses intensity in these and purity in black, in addition to not having the advantages in terms of the autonomy of this type of screen.
Its refresh rate of 90 Hz makes the interface move slightly more fluidly and can automatically change depending on your application.
The realme UI configuration, which is the version of the layer with which it has been launched – on Android 11, surely upgradable to Android 12 – allows you to modify some aspects of the screen to make it slightly change some values.
In my case, I have opted for a configuration with more saturated colors since I have missed that plus. Its speakers complement the panel well and are stereo, and it sounds both from the top and bottom when consuming multimedia content.
Enough power for everyday
Inside, the realme 9i has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 processor accompanied by 4 GB of RAM expandable by an additional 3 GB thanks to virtual RAM technology.
The device’s performance is good, standard within its price range, and this possibility of virtually increasing the RAM allows you to relieve the physical RAM at a time when multitasking is reaching its limit.
I have tried some games like UFC Mobile 2 or Rocket League Sideswipe, and although the general performance is not bad, there are times when some frame drops do appear. Far from it, they do not make it impossible to play, but there they are.
When browsing the internet or checking social networks, the device works well. After all, it integrates a recent mid-range processor, presented at the end of last 2021.
realme 9i camera
The mobile has a triple rear camera comprising a 50-megapixel primary sensor with f / 1.8, a 2-megapixel macro sensor, and a 2-megapixel black and white sensor.
The primary camera is undoubtedly the best of the three and can achieve good results with good lighting. HDR works pretty well in pretty much all situations and can help you out when shooting landscapes.
The macro camera manages to bring the focus closer to capture objects more closely. However, the results do not quite have the expected level of detail.
Design
Looking at the market, it is easy to see that most manufacturers use plastic on the back of their devices, which, for practical purposes, is more convenient and cheaper than other materials such as metal or glass. Plastic does not have to be wrong, and realme, just as it has done on other occasions, has chosen to try to give it a differentiating aspect.
If you look closely at the back of the realme 9i, you will see that, depending on how the light falls on the device, it describes a pattern of vertical lines. This sets it apart entirely from other mid-range smartphones with a plain color on its back.
realme 9i side fingerprint reader
It is not an excessively heavy device for its size, and with its 190 grams of weight, it is comfortable to hand. It is one of those mobiles you can hold for a long time without getting tired, and in part, it is also due to its dimensions since it is 8.4 mm thick, and despite the size of its screen, it is not heavy.
After thoroughly testing the realme 9i, we can get a few things clear about this device. Its design, despite having plastic as the primary material, is quite careful, and it has a characteristic back thanks to these lines that are seen depending on how the light hits it.
It is comfortable thanks to its width that allows you to hold it firmly in your hand, and although it would have a few grams left over, it does not become heavy.
Realme 9i
Its screen is not AMOLED technology, and there are occasions when this technology is missed because of its more vibrant colors and purer blacks. Still, the first can be corrected, to a certain extent, by employing the screen settings.
One of the positive points of this is its 90 Hz refresh rate, which allows for more fluid movements on the screen and animations and a better experience when playing compatible games.

Android
In terms of power, it is a device that handles quite well and has no problem downloading applications, browsing social networks, or carrying out Internet queries. However, it is not a mobile designed for advanced users. On the other hand, the performance is fair in games, and if you want to play the top games in terms of graphics, you will have some difficulties.
Its autonomy, however, does not disappoint, and the mobile takes advantage of the 5,000 mAh it has, allowing it, with intense use, to arrive throughout the day with 20% battery or more in many cases. It is a very personal matter, but in my case, it has offered excellent autonomy.
