This phone comes in a small blue cardboard box, with the model serigraphy on the top. Underneath is a sticker with the main features and the frequency bands it supports. In this case, it is the European version with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage in blue. It is striking that it comes with a small bright sticker, which indicates that it is an original terminal.
Opening it, we find the terminal at the top with a blue sticker on the screen. I don’t know if the blue colors of the box and the sticker are due to the terminal’s color, but they add a touch of color to the packaging.
Design and Screen
This Meizu X8 is made of metal with a blue gradient color on the back.
It has a 6.15-inch IPS LCD screen with a Full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2200 pixels and a 395 pixels per inch density. The aspect ratio is 19:9 and has a usable area of 85%. The quality of the screen is quite good, with an excellent range of colors. The brightness is also perfect (450cd/m²), and it looks great.
Despite the large screen, the dimensions are not very big: 74.6 mm wide, 151.2 mm high, and 7.8 mm thick, and it weighs 160g.
This phone also has a notch (or top tab). Unlike other devices with a gap, this one is relatively thin, going practically unnoticed even though it occupies a large part of the screen’s width. In this case, in the upper frame is the selfie camera, the speaker for calls. It has a slight white notification lead.
We are facing a beautiful terminal; although it is a matter of taste, the design, materials, and finishes of the Meizu X8 have pleasantly surprised us.
On the back of the device, we find 2 cameras located vertically in the center and a LED flash just above. Below is the fingerprint reader that works accurately.
On the left is the slot for nano SIMs cards, and on the right is the volume up and down button and the power button (on and off).
The lower central part has the USB type C (reversible), and on the sides, the holes for the speaker and microphone are located. On the contrary, in the upper part is a hole for the 3.5mm jack connector for the headphones.
Software
This Meizu brings the version of Android 8.1.0 Oreo under the customization layer of Flyme 7.1.7. In this case, it is a Global stable multi-language ROM that does not include Galician, Catalan, or Basque.
This customization layer does not include an application drawer, so the apps will all be on the main screen grouped in folders. The operating system’s appearance (the theme you use) is straightforward and intuitive, with large icons. If we don’t like the appearance of the desktop, we can use a “launcher” or the “Themes” application that has to customize.
This phone has Google services, including the Google Play application store, YouTube, Maps, Gmail… In addition, it comes with Android and Meizu’s own applications such as App Store (Meizu’s own store ), Calendar, Notes, Weather, Calculator, a file explorer… On the other hand, a folder with sponsored games can be deleted without complications.
For unlocking, you can set facial recognition that works accurately, but not with sunglasses on.
Like other Meizus, this phone also has options to change screen brightness and color. For example, the screen can be painted more yellow at night to avoid straining the eyes.
After running the Malwarebytes antivirus, as always, 2 malicious applications have been detected, just like in the Meizu 16th. The one that detects us as a Trojan cannot be uninstalled because it is a system application (possibly it is not dangerous).
Camera
This Meizu X8 has a dual primary camera for better quality. The first lens is a 12Mpx Sony IMX362 Exmor RS with an f/1.9 aperture and 1,550 µm pixel size. It is a 6-element camera.
The second one is only 5 Mpx with 1 µm pixel size and comprises 4 elements. It has a double color dual led flash (adapting to the temperature of the photo).
On the other hand, the selfie camera has a 20 Megapixel Sony IMX376 Exmor RS sensor, with an f/2.0 aperture and 1 µm pixel size.
The camera app is very intuitive. It has autofocus, digital image stabilization,
Digital Zoom and several shooting modes include Panoramic photos, portrait effect, panoramic, HDR filter, and “bokeh” or out-of-focus effect.
Power and Hardware
First of all, to check the total performance of this device, we have subjected it to the AnTuTu Benchmark v7 test with the phone as it comes from the factory. The result obtained has been 167,650 points, with which we can anticipate that it is a mid-range mobile but not for that reason a terminal that is not very powerful.
This Meizu has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 8-core processor with a maximum speed of 2.2GHz. It is a mid-range processor with 64-bit architecture and several Cortex A75 and Cortex A55 structures. In addition, it is accompanied by a Qualcomm Adreno™ 616 graphics card (GPU).
In this case, this model has 4GB of high-speed LPDDR4X type RAM, and there is another model with up to 6GB of RAM. After submitting it to a speed test, it obtained: 11,496MB/s.
