Our protagonist today comes inside a well-constructed sky blue box. On all its sides and the top, we can read “Honor 8X” in white letters accompanied by the exponent “AI,” which indicates that we are facing a terminal with artificial intelligence.
In the two stickers of considerable size that it has stuck (excuse the redundancy), we realize that we are facing a terminal capable of operating in any country of the EU. They also indicate the unit’s colour and capacity that we will analyze, CE stamps, IMEI numbers and less relevant information for the user.
Once we open the box, we find the Honor 8X in a plastic bag resting on a white cardboard case. Inside this case, we have a transparent silicone cover, the SIM tray extraction tool, the user manual and the guarantee offered by the brand.
Huawei Honor 8X : Power and Hardware
If we go inside this beautiful terminal, we discover the muscle that makes it work, which, as happens with several terminals of this brand, comes from the hand of Hisilicon. On this occasion, the chosen processor is an 8-core Kirin 710 that works at a speed of 2.2 GHz and has artificial intelligence so that the experience is much more intuitive and improved. This, together with its 4GB of RAM, makes the whole thing work smoothly.
With the configuration of RAM and ROM that our unit has, we have subjected it to several tests, among which is the AnTuTu performance test (before installing any application), and it has reached a score of 139,000 points, beating the Huawei Mate 20 Lite narrowly.
Although with this amount of RAM, most users have more than enough, if you are one of those who still want more, you can opt for the Chinese versions, which have 6GB RAM, instead of the 4GB with which they are Europeans built. If you choose this option, you will not have Google Play, among other services, which does not happen with the European version that does bring them.
You also have to know that in a recent system update, they have integrated gesture navigation in the European version, which the Chinese already had available.
Considering that it has a screen of more than acceptable quality, this is a perfect phone for multimedia use. It is the ideal ally to play or devour series and movies at a fair price. It also has a federal guarantee in the case of our unit.
Navigation
The graphics processor in charge of giving us power when playing is a Turbo Mali-G51 GPU, 130% faster than the previous model, and that practically moves any game you want to play. It does not have the latest GPU on the market, but from what we have been able to test, it manages games perfectly without overheating and has not shown lags or strange hitches. After playing “PUG Mobile” or “Hero Hunters” for half an hour, the temperature increase was only 4ºC. The Turbo that has been added feels excellent to the fluidity of the device.
The sound is quite correct, being loud and apparent considering that we only have a speaker at the bottom of the terminal.
Huawei Honor 8X: Design and Screen
If you are looking for a beautiful, elegant smartphone with high-end finishes, you cannot ignore this terminal. The Honor 8X offers a very “Premium” look and feel when we hold it in our hands.
It has a metal chassis and rounded edges that fit correctly in hand. The back is made of glass with two-tone colour, allowing us to see, in the case of the black model, a strip of a different black following the line of the cameras and the LED flash to the bottom of the terminal. As is often the case with glass backs, the fingerprint and dirt magnet is ensured with what is best to hit the first time on the fingerprint reader.
At the front, we have its piece 6.5-inch screen, which takes advantage of almost the entire front of the terminal, leaving minimal edges. It has a tiny notch compared to what we can see on the market today; if we do not consider the “teardrop” notches in the style of the Oneplus 6T or the big brother of the Honor, 8X, the Honor 8X Max.
We might think that with this screen, the measurements of this phone would be somewhat crazy, but being so well used, the dimensions remain at 160 mm x 76.6 mm 7.9 mm with a weight of 175 grams.
We are facing an IPS LCD screen with a Full HD + resolution (2340 x 1080 pixels) that leaves us with a more acceptable and helpful surface. We can change this resolution to our liking if we want to save battery power, being able to leave it in HD+ (1560 x 720 pixels). However, the “intelligent resolution” option automatically and perfectly manages this task. It has an aspect ratio of 19.5:9 and a pixel density of 396 PPI. It must be said that it has left us with an excellent feeling, being a perfect quality screen within the range in which it moves.
The brightness sensor is located in the notch (the selfie camera, the earpiece, and the notification LED) and manages the brightness well, although it could be a little faster. The low intelligence is deficient, and the high shine is very high, so this section has no problem.
If we focus on its sides, its only physical buttons are located on the right, the one to turn the terminal on and off and the button with which we control the volume. On the left, we have the tray where we can simultaneously put two nano SIM cards and one micro SD card.
The upper edge houses the noise-cancelling microphone, and the lower edge houses the speaker, microphone, micro USB port and a 3.5 mini Jack port that most music lovers will undoubtedly enjoy. The fact that a “latest batch” terminal still comes with a micro USB port instead of USB type C may make more than one squeak a bit.
