the new Xiaomi Mi 12 Pro review and comparing the operation of this majestic device in natural conditions.
This version brings the black case with details in copper colour. At the top, we find the number 12 with some copper letters and just below is the name of the complete terminal. It includes 5G, and the sound is from “Harman / Kardon”. On one side appears the “CE” logo (European Conformity), which indicates that it meets the legal and technical minimums in terms of safety to market in Europe.
When we open it, we find a box that includes the instruction manual, some stickers and a flexible and transparent TPU cover. Below is the terminal wrapped in plastic, and below is the current charger (Spanish version) from 5V to 3A / 9V to 3A / 11v to 6A / 20v to 6A with a maximum power of 120W the USB type C cable.
Software
This new mobile phone has Android 12 under the customization layer of MIUI 13 (13.0.14). Many of you already know that it is a simple and intuitive design. It includes many configurations and adaptation possibilities in the main menu, with themes and wallpapers.
It is a global ROM that includes the main languages of the world, among which are Spanish, Galician, Basque and Catalan. This system comes with automatic updates via OTA notification for greater simplicity for users.
It has Google services, including the Google Play app store, YouTube, Chrome, Drive, Photos, Maps, Gmail, and other apps. It also brings native Android apps like File Manager, Calculator and many sponsored apps which depend on the setting region.
Unfortunately, it does not have FM Radio.
Design and Screen
As usual in Xiaomi’s latest high-end terminals, this terminal maintains the aesthetics of previous versions. It is a very elegant terminal with a slight curvature on the screen.
The width is 74.6 mm, 163.6 mm high and 8.2 mm thick, being a little larger than the Xiaomi Mi 12. Its weight amounts to 203 g, being a very balanced weight that is barely appreciated. It is made of aluminium and, together with its uniform and matte colour, makes it a brilliant phone that does not stand out too much.
The front part stands out for its small hole in the centre of the screen. The practical surface of the screen is 89%. Mount a 6.73-inch AMOLED panel (Samsung E5) with a Full HD + resolution of 1440 x 3200 pixels and a density of 621 pixels per inch. The aspect ratio remains at 20:9.
The screen is impressive. Very good and with very intense and vivid colours (regardless of the selected configuration). The maximum peak brightness is 1,500 cd/m², and the contrast ratio is 8,000,000:1. This screen has the HDR10 + certificate and Dolby Vision. In addition, the screen has DisplayMate A +, which ensures that it has passed an intense testing and calibration test to evaluate and improve image quality and colour and grayscale accuracy. Mention that it is a 10-bit panel with 1024 tones of each primary colour obtained (combining them, 1 billion colours are reached).
The screen refresh rate is 120Hz, which provides a greater sense of fluidity when moving through the screens. In addition, its tactile response amounts to the incredible 480Hz. They do not have any water resistance certificate, but it does have Corning Gorilla Glass 7 Victus protection against scratches.
Power and Hardware
And how could it be otherwise? This Xiaomi Mi 12 Pro debuts a high-end processor. To check its performance and find out the maximum power it reaches, we have submitted it to the AnTuTu Benchmark version 9.3.2. In this way, we get the score and compare it with other terminals.
After analyzing it with the terminal loaded and practically with the apps from the factory in Spain, it has obtained 951,569 points. This figure places this terminal at the top of the ranking of the most powerful phones. So if we take into account the hardware, we can say that it is a high-end device.
However, at the end of this section, I will tell you my impressions of daily use.
Camera
You can’t ask for more from the Xiaomi Mi 12 Pro cameras! It has 3 50 Mpx cameras on the back, and a double led flash.
- The first camera mounts a Sony IMX707 ISOCELL 50 Mpx wide-angle sensor with an f/1.9 aperture. It is a sensor.
- 1/2.76 in size and with a pixel of 0.64 µm. This is a seven-element lens.
- The second is a 50 Mpx telephoto sensor with a focal aperture of 1.9 and 1/2.76 sensor size. It has two optical magnifications, reaching up to 20 digital embellishments.
- The third is a 50 Mpx ultra-wide-angle camera with a pixel size of 1.22μm and a focal aperture of f/1.28.
The selfie camera has a 32 Mpx Samsung JD1 ISOCELL sensor with a pixel size of 0.70μm. I leave you some test photos that I have taken during these days of use:
The camera app is the same as on other Xiaomi phones. It is simple and intuitive, and configurable with shortcuts. It has an HDR mode, Artificial Intelligence, autofocus, optical image stabilization, PRO mode, wide-angle and night mode. It also has phase detection autofocus (PDAF) which makes focusing fast and accurate.
It also allows saving in RAW mode.
The quality of the photos is excellent. Artificial Intelligence (AI) perfectly fulfils its function and detects and optimizes images. The colours are very balanced and do not artificially saturate the images. The contrast is correct, and the different modes and lenses work very well.
The low-light camera performs quite well. Some slight flare may appear, but the detail in this type of photo is excellent. As I recommend lately, “night mode” substantially improves these types of images.
With the video, we have no image problems, but it is true that the microphone is very sensitive and picks up much noise. The image stabilizer works well in any situation, and the image quality is excellent. In addition, AI enhances low-light scenes (Ultra Night Video) by reducing image noise. It also has the Xiaomi ProFocus AI function to track the subject by constantly focusing and thus not losing detail.
